    • Madoff survivors and victims
    • Dear Mr. Lifson, Reading your article this evening made me feel hopeful about my financial future. My husband and I lost millions in the Madoff fraud. We were not quite wiped out but had to drastically change our standard of living, etc. My husband, at 68, just got a job, and I, at 66, got me real estate sales license and drive people to the airports and do house watching to try to make ends meet. I am also on the computer averaging 7 hours a day trying to get help for the survivors and victims. I have written to every columnist, blogger and official to get their attention as to the plight of the victims now. There is a mountain of evidence that there was criminal participation in the SEC, which allowed Madoff to get away with his scam for so many years. FINRA and the SEC never did their jobs re: Madoff. There had to be criminal conspiracy at the highest levels of our government. No one in the government is talking about Madoff; not Schumer, not Schapiro, not Obama. The silence is deafening. In addition to that we feel that we are being victimized again by Picard with his definition of "net equity" and "customer". It is like the fox guarding the henhouse. The so called "regulators" have such close ties to Wall Street that it is impossible to believe that they would be impartial and actually investigate and punish fraud. Madoff had a lot of very close connections to the regulatory agencies. We are trying to prove the involvement of these agencies in the fraud that cost so many of us our life savings and funding for our future generations. Your article seems so clear and articulate about the issues. Can we call on you for your advice in this case? You are superinformed and seem to be sympathetic to our suffering. Thank you so much for your kind attention. Sincerely, Stephanie Halio
